Most D2C founders hit the same wall: ads that worked brilliantly for three months suddenly cost twice as much per order. If your D2C ads are not working anymore, it is rarely bad luck. Here are the five usual causes and what to do about each.
5 reasons D2C ads stop working
1. Creative fatigue
The same audience has seen the same three videos too many times, so they scroll past.
Fix: test new creatives every week. Rotate hooks, formats and faces. Customer-style UGC videos often beat polished studio ads.
2. One offer for everyone
New visitors, cart abandoners and past buyers all see the same ad.
Fix: split campaigns by stage: a product story for new people, a reminder or small incentive for cart abandoners, and a new launch or bundle for past buyers.
3. A leaky product page
The ad gets the click, but a slow page, thin product photos or unclear delivery and returns lose the sale.
Fix: check page speed on mobile, add real photos and a short video, show delivery time and return policy near the buy button, and add customer reviews.
4. No retention
Every sale costs full ad price because nobody brings customers back.
Fix: set up three automatic flows on email or WhatsApp: welcome, abandoned cart and win-back after 30 to 60 days.
5. Measuring the wrong number
Looking only at ROAS on one platform hides the real picture.
Fix: track blended numbers every week: total ad spend, total orders, cost per order and repeat-purchase rate.

Smart rakho, sachcha rakho.
How often should I change my ad creatives?
Test at least one or two new creatives every week and pause the ones whose cost per order keeps rising.
What is a good ROAS for a D2C brand?
It depends on your margins. Work out your break-even ROAS first (1 divided by your gross margin), then aim to stay comfortably above it.
Do I need an agency to fix my ads?
Not always. Start with the five fixes above. If cost per order still rises after a month, an outside audit can spot what you are too close to see.
